Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach which provides a way for children to express their thoughts and emotions through the medium of play rather than talking. For a child, the toys become their words, and I work to help children explore their feelings and process their experiences through their play.
Play is central to a child’s social, emotional, cognitive, creative, physical and language development. Play is a child’s natural medium for expressing themselves. I will build a therapeutic relationship with your child and provide a safe space to explore their feelings.
Personal benefits to children receiving Play Therapy can include: restored and deepened relationships, increased self-confidence and self-esteem, reduction in fear and anxiety, resolution of traumas, increased concentration, improved behaviours and a reduction in aggressive behaviours.
I have over 25 years’ experience of working with children and their families in a range of settings and schools including primary, secondary, pupil referral unit and special schools for children with profound and complex learning difficulties.
I provide therapy in schools and in my private practice playroom.
I have worked with children who have experienced emotional challenges as a result of: attachment issues, anxiety, behaviour that challenges, medical issues, trauma, domestic violence, emotional abuse, neglect, adoption, separation, loss, and divorce.
Additionally I specialise in supporting children with additional or complex needs, communication difficulties (including non/pre-verbal) physical and learning disabilities and neurodivergence (ASC, ASD, ADD, ADHD, PDA).
